Enviro and UNI Systems keep CETA project moving smoothly

Case Study

CETA Homes first turned to the Masons UNI Flexible Air Barrier System in 2020 and never looked back. At this 12-unit Auckland project, the team paired UNI PLUS with the Enviro AAC Intertenancy Wall System and VHP Strong Roof Underlay to keep to programme, protect interiors, and lift build quality.

‘We started using Masons UNI PLUS when we were having issues with material supply, and it kept our programme moving,’ says CETA Homes’ project manager Josh Olson. ‘Even if cladding was delayed, we could carry on inside and stay on the critical path.’

Since then, UNI PLUS has become Josh’s preferred wrap. ‘I like it. Other wraps might go on a bit faster, but UNI PLUS is thicker and stronger. It lets interior trades work without weather delays and that’s what matters.’

Enviro AAC panel proves easier, straighter and faster to install

At the Flaxdale Residences in Birkdale, Josh used the Enviro AAC Intertenancy Wall System for the first time and was impressed. The lightweight concrete panels and a bracket system helped the crew keep walls square, straight and true, and sped up installation.

‘Another CETA team used it on a 13 -unit development in Pukekohe, but this is my first time leading it,’ Josh says. ‘Compared with a system I’ve installed before, I prefer Enviro’s bracketry, as it keeps everything aligned and it’s easier to handle.’

‘That ease of installation has been really important for Josh,’ adds Jacqueline Goldsbury, Masons' national key account manager. ‘We’ve worked closely with Josh from CETA Homes and refined control-joint details and spacing from his feedback. If we can make a system faster and more cost-effective to put up, we’ll do it.’

Products that perform to spec, with real support

Rounding out the suite is VHP Strong Roof Underlay, a high-performance, highly breathable, fire-retardant underlay that manages water and air during construction and in service.

‘That choice came from our roofer,’ notes Josh. ‘He has a long relationship with Masons, and our requirements were simple: fire-retardant and self-supporting. Their VHP Roof Underlay ticks those boxes.’ Between Jacqueline and Masons’ technical manager Arthur Whitfield, CETA Homes says the combination of product and backup keeps builds on track.

The mix of systems and products and Masons’ technical support mean a robust and time-efficient build. The UNI system let the team ‘weather-in’ early, so interior trades kept moving. Enviro’s panels went up straight and true, meeting fire and acoustic targets without fuss. And the VHP Roof Underlay did what the roofer needed: a self-supporting, fire-retardant underlay that goes on cleanly and stays put.

The service piece counted just as much. Quick spec answers on UNI PLUS, hands-on guidance for a first Enviro install, and small details refined from contractor feedback meant fewer site surprises. It’s a simple recipe CETA will use again: UNI PLUS to lock in the programme; Enviro for compliant, tidy intertenancy walls; and VHP Roof Underlay to close the envelope – all backed by people who pick up the phone.
